Child of Galina was a little slow on the start for me. Maybe it was because I am not normally a reader of fantasy. About a third of the way through I found myself wanting to pick it up a little more often. For the most part it was a pretty entertaining read.
I am about 40% of the way into this book and I can go no further. It is in needed of an editor, or at the very least, a few beta readers. Between punctuation errors, continuity errors, repetitive sentences, and dialog that reads like a high school drama club putting on a Shakespearean play, I simply cannot finish it.
With sentences like "He used to delight in the looks of fear and disgust that he could bring out of her in her in the past." I do not blame the author, a good editor would have caught all mistakes like this and fixed them. It is hard to edit yourself. Unfortunately, there are quite a few phrases like this.
It's a pity too, because I *love* the idea of the story. The plot is a sound one. I love stories with prophesies and God/esses run amok. In fact, when I first saw this book and the Pagan Triple Goddess symbol on the front of it, I assumed it would be a Pagan book. Well, we all know what they say about assuming and judging a book by its cover, LOL.
While I like the plot of the book, it is unfortunately predictable. The whole story is laid out before the reader like a Hustler centerfold nothing left to the imagination. In parts where it is supposed to be from one character's point of view, that character is somehow omnipotent and their downfall is written right there. No mystery, no wonder. Lines like "Things where falling into place for him, and he allowed himself to be lulled into a feeling of false security." Take all the suspense out of what will happen next. The author has clearly told us that whatever he thinks is going to happen will not.
I don't know how these reviews work. If the author reads this, I would like to say that I hope you do not take this too much to heart. I can see where you are trying to go with this story. I can tell there was a lot of passion put into it, and it could be great. However, I think it still needs a lot of work. I simply hope what I've said won't stall you on trying your hand at something else, because I can see a decent writer hidden behind all these errors. Dear, please get an editor or several bata readers, ones who will not blow smoke up your bum simply because they are your friends.
This book was fantastic! The character development was spot on and the emotions felt were true to life! Get it, read it, love it!!!

This would be a great book for the beach as it is fairly short in length. The story line takes place in the future but there are elements of the past as well. I loved the character Shelby as the dragonfly with attitude. Good versus evil is always a nice read.
